Dear Guests
Please excuse our mess...we are currently
undergoing renovations.
We will be adding an additional
20 rooms and Event Space that can accommodate up to 150 people and
we anticipate to be completed by Spring 2026.
The
Matheson rooms face the construction site and may be noisy at times
during the day, but we will do our best to help make your stay
enjoyable and comfortable.
We are pretty excited about
our renovation project and realize what an inconvenience it can be,
but we feel the end result will all be worth it.
During
construction elevator use will be limited to hours of operation -
Check with front desk associates for operational hours.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we
undergo these growling pains.
Sincerely
The
Princess Team
Tobermory is the scuba diving capital of Canada. The waters of Fathom Five National Marine Park contain 22 accessible shipwrecks some in as little as 6 metres of water, others in 50 metres or more. The water clarity in Georgian Bay is exceptional, with visibility reaching 15 to 20 metres on a good day.
Tobermory Princess Hotel is located in the heart of Tobermory village, steps from the dive operators, the glass-bottom boat dock, and the harbour entrance to Little Tub and Fathom Five. For divers, there is no closer or more convenient base in town.
• 22 known shipwrecks within Fathom Five National Marine Park
• Crystal-clear freshwater visibility: 15 to 20 metres on clear days
• Wrecks for every level: the Arabia (6m deep) is perfect for beginners; the Wetmore (30m+) for advanced
• Year-round diving is possible, though summer (June–September) offers the warmest conditions
Dive Life is the main dive shop in Tobermory, located on Little Tub Harbour — a 5-minute walk from Tobermory Princess Hotel. They offer equipment rental, guided dives, certification courses, and tank fills.
• Dive Life: 5-minute walk from the hotel
• Big Tub Harbour (Sweepstakes and City of Grand Rapids wrecks): 35-minute walk or 5-minute drive (Paid Parking in Effect)
• Main Fathom Five dive sites: 5 to 20 minutes by boat from the harbour
• Early breakfast at Pharos Restaurant — fuel up before your morning dive
• Gear drying and storage area — ask our front desk on arrival
• Local dive knowledge at nearby Dive Centres
• Free parking for vehicles
• Breakfast discount for all registered hotel guests
Georgian Bay is cold. Even in August, temperatures at depth can be 4°C to 8°C. A drysuit is strongly recommended for dives below 15 metres. At the surface, summer temperatures reach 18°C to 22°C. Divers Den rents drysuits if you do not have your own.
June through September is the core dive season. Visibility is typically best in June and early July before summer algae blooms. September diving is excellent — fewer crowds, pleasant temperatures, and all operators still fully open.
Tobermory is one of the best places in Canada to learn to dive. Divers Den offers PADI open water courses and introductory "Try Scuba" experiences. The Sweepstakes wreck in Big Tub Harbour — sitting in just 6 metres of water — is often used for beginner dives.
